Hill was a New Zealand born illustrator who designed Christmas cards, book jackets as well as producing other graphic work. The Man Who Could Work Miracles was an 1898 short story by H.G.Wells which was adapted into a film in the later 1930s. The present illustration may relate to a BBC radio adaptation of the story from 1934 and may have been used as a column illustration or tailpiece in a magazine or newspaper.
