By the time of Nora Yoxall's death at the age of 105 she was one of the last surviving artists associated with the Cotswold Arts and Crafts Movement. Having trained at Birmingham School of Art she met her life-long companion Elsie Whitford and the two established a studio at Blockley near Chipping Campden. Here they developed a reputation in the field of design and stained glass, both designing and making their commissions in this medium. Most of her early graphic work as an illustrator dates from around or just after her time as a student in Birmingham. It has strong echoes of the style associated with the Birmingham School of Art and artists like Joseph Southall and Arthur Gaskin.
