Peter de Wint, OWS

1784-1849

A Saw-Pit

Ref: 1921

Watercolour over traces of black chalk with highlights scratched in, 17.5 by 46 cm

Provenance: Matthew Pryor; Andrew Wyld

Exhibited: Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, Peter de Wint, Summer 1979, no.10

The subject of this watercolour appears to relate to a drawing in the Victoria and Albert Museum (see literature Fitzwilliam Museum, Exhibition catalogue (op cit) cat.no.9). The Fitzwilliam Museum exhibition catalogue also suggests a possible location for the drawing as Halnaker House in Essex. A drawing of this house in the Fitzwilliam Museum collection (acc.no.2529) shows a similar woodstack next to the building.
