Kortright developed his own distinctive and highly attractive style of decorative landscape painting, in part informed by his extensive travels in Continental Europe and also from his time living in the artists’ colony at St Ives in Cornwall. It was there that he lived with the painter Norman Wilkinson and both painters went on to work as commercial artists and poster designers. Kortright put his artistic philosophy in writing in a series of articles with the title Decorative Landscape Painting which were published in the periodical The Artist in 1934 and 1935.
