After studies at Edinburgh School of Art, Boyd was a pupil in Paris under the celebrated animalier sculptor Édouard Navellie. She later settled back in Edinburgh specialising in animalier sculpture as well as ecclesiastical commissions. The National Galleries of Scotland hold two examples of her animal sculpture (Cat (conceived 1933-6) and Kestrel (c.1936) (acc.nos.GMA 2929/GMA 4145)). Similar animal subjects form a significant part of her exhibits at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute.
