The Scottish artist William Reid Dick trained at Glasgow School of Art later rising to become the best-known sculptor of his day, sculptor to George VI and creator of some of the best-known monumental public sculptures amongst them: the Kitchener Memorial Chapel in St Paul's, the Lion on the Menin Gate, Ypres, the stone equestrian group 'Controlled Energy' on Unilever House in London and Franklin D.Roosevelt in Grosvenor Square. His smaller portrait busts show a more intimate side to his art, this sensitive plaster sculpture showing his fine abilities as a modeller of remarkable detail.
