Boswell exhibited The Empire Builders at the AIA Soho Square show “Artists Against Fascism and War”. Andy Friend (see exhibition text for Towner Art Gallery Exhibition) has pointed out its connection to the Italian colonial expansion of those years, which culminated in the invasion  of Abyssinia in October 1935. Impressions of this work are held in the Tate Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Auckland Art Gallery in New Zealand.
