Graham Sutherland, OM

1903-1980

Lammas, 1926

Ref: 947

Signed by the artist in pencil l.r.: Graham Sutherland

Etching on laid paper from the edition of ninety, 11.1 by 16.2 cm (plate size)

Although Sutherland’s Samuel Palmer-influenced etchings from the 1920s are a world away from the distinctive style he would develop in the following two decades, Palmer remained a great hero for the young artist and a formidable example for the equally visionary artistic language that would always characterise his best work.
