Watercolour, ink and wax resist, 50.5 by 32.5 cm

This watercolour relates to the work Piper produced for Elizabeth Maconchy's church opera The Jessie Tree, composed in 1970. It is possibly a variant or idea for Piper's abstract representation of the Jessie Tree which was used as a frontispiece to a hardbook book related to the production and published by the Lyrebird Press two years later in 1972.
