Stenlake (op cit) refers to the dramatic, swirling draughtsmanship in Breton drawings by Bevan such as this:"Van Gogh's drawing style is also called to mind in rapid, immediate landscape sketches such as these...with their lines of expressive of movement and energy." Bevan would have been most unusual as a British artist of the early 1890s in knowing Van Gogh's work at all.
