The Beach at Shoreham

Ref: 2688

Signed and dated l.l.: Boswell/53

Oil on board, 39 by 49 cm (15 ¼ by 19 ¼ ins)

The beaches on the Sussex were a popular excursion for the artist whilst still living in London in the early 1950s – he would move to nearby Hove later in the same decade. The linear forms of the beach shingle, wooden groygnes and posts point to the artist’s evolution towards abstraction in the following decade.
