John Nash, RA

1893-1977

Flues at Bottalack Mine, West Cornwall

Ref: 799

Signed and dated l.l.: John Nash/68

Watercolour, 37 by 50 cm

Cornwall was one of Nash's favourite destinations for painting trips in the Post War period and he was a perceptive observer of the effect man had on the landscape there - particularly in the mines and claypits. He frequently accompanied other painters on visits to the county, including Carel Weight and Edward Bawden who painted similarly impressive views of the county's mines in the same decade.
